Getting rich does not happen overnight.  It is a collective effort. You will never get rich if you don’t work consistently. And of course, a lot of sacrifice and effort are needed to reach the point. By running a business, your dreams of becoming wealthy may come into fruition. Running a bar business is a great step in becoming rich. But before becoming successful, you still need a lot of lessons to learn to help you face endeavors in the future.

Be responsible. Running a bar operation is a risky business, not only because of the nature of the business but due to the potentially dangerous product. Alcohol affects all people differently, and all bar staff should be aware of how to serve it responsibly, as well as how to cut someone off when needed. Take time to learn the local laws and licensing requirements as well to keep your operation legally sound. Be aware of your responsibilities in managing your bar business. It has been noted that it is a risky business as mentioned above. You need to control how your bar works- from operations to customers. Be knowledgeable enough of the nature of your business.

Keep an eye on your investment.  You want to consider your total investment potential which will affect your location. If you are starting with minimal capital, you may be starting your bar in a location where your local customers will be of lesser means. You can’t start an upscale bar on the wrong side of town. If you want to start of bar that caters to middle-age customers, opening it across the street from the college probably won’t attract your intended clientele.

Money is a serious matter, so be wise enough to handle your capital properly.

Train your staff. A well-trained staff is essential to your business. Bartenders who know their craft inside and out will be more likely to help your bar stand out above the rest. Beyond training them to be skilled behind the bar, your bartending staff must be personable, friendly and generally able to converse with customers.

Trainings for your staff is helpful in running your business as these provide the exposures to  new techniques and styles. Keep yourself updated!

Create a signature drink. Creating a signature drink is important to developing a unique vibe and identity for your bar. Putting your own spin on your drink menu gives customers a special reason to visit your bar instead of the one down the street.

Most customers look in a bar for a signature drink. Create a distinct drink that only your bar can make.

It is important to have security. Your security could also be yourself or your bar tender, or you could invest in an additional security guard. If your bar is too become successful, you will probably need to think about keeping your customers safe.

Security guards are important to keep the bar business in order. You need to let the customers feel safe all the time.

Change the drink menu periodically. This is generally true of most restaurants, but offering a variety is especially important for a bar. Try switching up the draft beer you provide every few months, and bring in new wines from different wineries to offer your guests something new. You may even offer a new cocktail with the seasons, offering your staff a chance to be creative and mix something new. Changing your menu, or at least parts of it, keeps customers interested and gives you the opportunity to do away with items that are not selling.

As customers differ, their taste can also change. So try to change your drink menu from time to time. Keep track on what drinks are salable or not.

Success begins when you are ready to take the challenge and accept mistakes. It might be a trial and error at the beginning, but be sure to know how to recover those mistakes.
