How do you promote green consciousness in your business? Greenette’s blog editor, Leigh Stringer, shares valuable insights in this informative video. According to Leigh, there are three big things to focus on when it comes to energy-saving in your business. The first one is , she points out, lighting. Leigh discloses that 40% of your company’s electricity bill is accounted to lighting. Technology support, which includes personal computers and monitors among others, takes another 30% of your electricity cost. The remaining 30% of your bill is due to the use of HV/AC (e.g. heating appliances).
So, how do you cut your electricity costs? Leigh suggests that you use LCD flat screen monitors instead of a CRT because it saves three times the energy. In addition, she says that employees are often unaware that they keep their monitors on while not in use. For this, she advises to turn them off immediately after using them.
Another suggestion is to use power strips because when you put everything on a power a strip, you could easily switch off. A green power strip would not continue to consume power all throughout the day.
Leigh also encourages that you think about recycling when it comes to using paper. How much can you save from recycling? Many small companies, she discloses, use $15,000 to $20,000 a year just on paper alone, not to mention the additional spending on toners and storage spaces. Other earth-saving suggestions include the use of programmable thermostats, motion sensor lights, glassware, to-go cups, silverware or china , anything that you can use over time for your coffee.
