“Mentoring flows naturally … it is not about a structured series of two-hour meetings,” he says.
Making ideas work is a goal in every startup newbie’s mind when seeking for a right mentor. As a business starter, what do you think should mentoring is? While many may have thought that mentoring is all about harnessing skills in the management aspect of the business, Gondal brings in another perspective. How does mentoring help in improving business ideas?
How mentoring enhances your business ideas:
1. Driving ideas into extraordinary creations
Because every successful business originates from an idea, what you want to happen is to enjoy your target market’s positive response to your product or service created beyond the ordinary.
As a mentor, Gondal asserts, “I am not interested in the 150th e-commerce company. Do something extraordinary.“
2. Building a strong team
You want to start your own business because you want to earn money, right? And to earn a more handsome profit means expanding your business over the medium to the long term. How do you carry out this? The key lies in forming an effective team, and mentoring has to contribute to this development.
Gondal contends, “Mentoring isn’t only about raising money. It is about building a strong team, sharpening a business idea and sticking with your startup through good and bad times.”
3. Helping with your needs
You know that at the very start of your business, the particular needs of your business should already be clear. What comes with the inception of your business concept are gaps that need to be filled once you begin execution. So, how should mentoring take your business idea further?
YoungEntrepeneur co-founder, Adam Toren, says: (Click here to read his full story.)
“Keeping in mind that your mentoring needs will shift as you start and build your business, take the time to determine exactly what kind of mentor you want now. Are you having trouble with the numbers, understanding your market or operations? Are you ready to ramp up production or still playing with concepts?”
4. Passion contagion
I am sure that one way or another, you have met someone in your life who had demonstrated a deep passion over something. This person has communicated that passion so effectively that at the end of that experience, you felt like you had been infected with his passion virus. Mentoring should result to that.
In describing Gondal, Seedfund co-founder Pravin Gandhi said:
“He never appears tense and enjoys everything he does. If he can pass on these qualities to the people he is helping, he will be a good mentor.“
As a business starter, acknowledge that some guidance and wisdom from business mentors can come in handy. Any business idea can be pushed further into becoming something extraordinary. How do you do that? Consider how mentoring should help like those listed above.
